Trans Eastern Kedah Interland Highway from Durian Burung to Kupang, Baling.

The Trans Eastern Kedah Interland Highway from Durian Burung to Kupang, Baling project by Department of Public Works (JKR) of Kedah state is to strengthen the road network in this state especially to link between the North and South part. This project is quite special as it is connecting the gateway to Thailand at Durian Burung with the East West highway which going through Baling district. This project had reduced the travel period of Baling to Durian Burung from 2 hours 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. 

The scope of this project is to construct the two-ways and two-lanes road for about 115 kilometres length and the total amount of road corridor area is 400 hectares. In addition, this project also involving the construction of new bridge and to widening the existing bridge. The total amount of bridge involved for this construction is 18 altogether. The other additional works include paving the way, the construction of junction and drainage as well as geotechnical works around hilly areas including landscaping, street lighting and furniture and public facilities.

There were two package in this project which is A and B. Package A starts from Durian Burung to Pedu (30 August 2005) with the length of 74.3 kilometres involving the cost about RM287 million and complete on 30 Mac 2010. Package B consists of five segment which is Segment A, B, C, D, and E. All of this segment starts at the same time (15 May 2006) but differ in finishing. Package B with segment A,B,C located in Sik district while segment D and E located in Baling district.

Segment A with length of 6.6 kilometre involving the cost of RM32,446,045million complete on 12 September 2009. Segment B with the length of 8.6 kilometre involving the cost of RM28,020,610 million complete on 15 December 2009. Segment C with the length of  7.2 kilometre involving the cost of RM24,249,789 million complete on 8 January 2010. Segment D with the length of 9.4 kilometre involving the cost of RM40,950,000 million complete on 19 Septrember 2009. Segment E with the length of 8.6 kilometre involving the cost of RM27,210,183 million complete on 30 September 2009.
